Phil Schaefer as fit as ever! LOCAL MEN HAVING FUN IN THEIR 60's. July 22, 2010
They call themselves "The Boys from Sheboygan," and the trio of golden-years men recently did the city proud.
Phil Schaefer, Gary Pfister and Mark Pfister teamed up and completed the Door County Spring Distance Triathlon last weekend, finishing fourth in the relay division.
What makes their feat impressive is their young-at-heart attitudes and willingness to take on new challenges in the name of fitness and camaraderie. Phil is 69, Gary is 66, and Mark is 63.
None of the three men live here anymore, but all have deep Sheboygan roots. Phil, who lives in Texas, graduated from Central in 1959; Gary, who lives in Menomonee Falls, graduated from South in 1965; and Mark, who lives in Michigan, graduated from South in 1965.
Phil handled the quarter-mile swim, Mark biked 18 miles and Gary ran 3 miles. "We were completely surprised when we came in fourth, as we think we were the oldest relay team in the competition," said Gary.
Everyone realizes time stands still for no man. But as "The Boys from Sheboygan" prove, we don't have to stand still for time either.

OUR FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS BARBARA REINHARDT
Barbara Reinhardt, who lives with Mr. & Mrs. Robert Garton, came to Sheboygan from Solothurn, Switzerland, under the aupices of the American Field Service.
The openmindedness, freedom, and good sense of humor of the American people impressed Barbara very much.
When commenting on Central, Barbara declared, "All the people are very nice and help me a lot. I think Central has very good school spirit.
Barbara enjoys music, the theater, classical music and concerts, and tennis. For her future career, Barbara plans to be an interpreter.
JOSE POMBO
Jose Pombo also came to Sheboygan under the auspices of the American Field Service, from Montevideo, Uruguay, and is residing with Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. Kuenne.
Jose thinks of Sheboygan as a nice, clean, and quiet small city. Though he had never seen snow before, he liked it very much.
"The students are very friendly, they are very helpful, and the teachers are, too," was Jose's comment about Central.
Sailing and horse-back riding are his favorite pastimes. Jose plans to enter the diplomatic service after he has finished his education. He likes America very much and would like to return in two or three years to live here permanently.

Class Trip to Washington, DC
Poem by Dianne Felde Powell Dear Central,
Good-bye to friends, both old and new;
Remember me, I'll remember you.
At last my day has truly come;
Dad is proud, and so is Mom.
Until the day I come again,
As an adult, in 2010.
Teach me to proudly spread your fame,
I'll never forget Central High School's name.
"Onward and upward," is my cry.
Not failing, V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!
Daring, courage, have I truly?
Always, happy, never unruly?
Yours forever, Central Mine,
Sincerely, The Class of 1959
